How Solar Panels Work

Solar panels consist of numerous photovoltaic cells made from semiconductor materials, typically silicon. When sunlight strikes these cells, it excites electrons, creating an electric current. Certain types of solar panel technology are commonly used in water coverage systems for homes and other facilities. However, solar energy offers more possibilities beyond just photovoltaic (PV) panels. "Passive" solar technology involves modifying or designing living spaces to harness the sun's energy for heating and cooling without relying on electricity. Another application, known as "solar process heat," benefits commercial and industrial companies. These systems can store water and provide ventilation and cooling.

What we do

Solar Panel Centrals (Solar Power Plants)

Solar panel centrals, or solar power plants, are large-scale installations designed to generate electricity for distribution across the power grid. These centrals can be categorized into two main types:

Photovoltaic (PV) Power Plants

These plants use large arrays of solar panels to convert sunlight directly into electricity. They are relatively easy to install and maintain and can be scaled up to meet increasing energy demands. PV power plants are widely used in both utility-scale projects and smaller community-based initiatives.

Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) Plants

Unlike PV plants, CSP plants use mirrors or lenses to concentrate sunlight onto a small area, typically a receiver. The concentrated light is then used to heat a fluid, producing steam that drives a turbine to generate electricity. CSP plants are more complex but can store thermal energy, allowing for electricity generation even when the sun is not shining.

Photovoltaic (solar power) plants are a collection of photovoltaic modules grouped into arrays for the purpose of generating electricity, which is then converted into alternating current with the required frequency and voltage through appropriate transformation devices, and subsequently fed into the distribution network. One of the photovoltaic plants that will be fully constructed by one of the companies within the Smart Invest Group is Sa-ni-ko 21, a 2.1 MW photovoltaic plant located in the municipality of Mogila – Bitola.
