Thursday 28th April 2022 is International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) World Day for Safety and Health at Work. The campaign focuses on raising awareness and shifting international attention to the sheer size of the problem at hand. Now more than ever, following the Covid-19 pandemic, Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) has become crucial in protecting working environments and safeguarding workers. ILO claims that promoting and creating a safety and health culture within the companies can help reduce the number of work-related deaths and injuries.
A section of the World Day for Safety & Health at Work report for 2021 focuses on the psychosocial risks such as isolation, longer working hours and lack of adequate workspace that employees faced whilst working from home during the pandemic. They urged employers to recognize these as risks to health and manage these in consultation with their staff.
In a workplace with a strong OSH culture, workers will feel comfortable raising concerns about possible OSH risks or hazards in the workplace and management is proactive in collaborating with workers to find appropriate, effective and sustainable solutions. This requires open communication and dialogue built on trust and mutual respect.
One way to promote a positive and open culture, minimising psychosocial risks to staff is by offering employee wellbeing perks. There are a fair few wellbeing programmes on the market, but nothing quite like REEF. REEF works alongside forward-thinking companies across the world to help support them in moving to a hybrid way of working by partnering with hospitality venues – creating a third workspace.
The benefits of REEFing your team aren’t just limited to improving their overall mental health:
